Motivated by the effects of climate change in Canada and by recent Canadian government sustainability targets, Canada Post Corporation (CPC) set a target of 90% diversion across all non-hazardous solid waste and construction and demolition waste by 2030. With complex operations across a wide swath of North America, it was clear that further support and expertise in zero waste was needed to plan for this achievement. All About Waste was contracted to support CPC in several key areas:

  1. Comprehensive zero waste strategy: while some planning and research efforts had been undertaken by CPC, a comprehensive zero waste strategy was needed. All About Waste took the foundational work by CPC and added new innovations, strategies, and projected costs based on its expertise. All About Waste developed a detailed zero waste strategy document, providing a roadmap for CPC to achieve zero waste by 2030. In addition, a zero waste project tracker was developed, which will act as a project planning/tracking tool based on the strategy.

  2. Sourcing specifications: All About Waste provided a specification and evaluation matrix that the CPC Sourcing team can provide to future vendors to encourage and/or ensure zero waste construction and demolition waste targets are met, as well as zero waste purchasing and zero waste end-of-life strategies across all contracts involving operational waste and durable goods waste.

  3. Waste hauling RFP: to ensure waste hauling services across the country supported CPC zero waste goals, All About Waste conducted research of industry leaders, compiled best waste hauling practices, and reviewed and provided feedback on a draft waste hauling RFP.

From construction to operations, All About Waste assisted CPC in laying the groundwork for achieving zero waste. With attention to detail and creative innovations, the team generated a comprehensive plan that will impact Canadians far into the future.
