56 Billion Coffee Pods Are Thrown Away Every Year

It’s easy to ignore the waste from a single coffee pod. It’s a lot harder when you put 56 billion of them in one place.

An estimated 56 billion coffee capsules become waste globally each year. Piled together, they could form a mountain roughly 99 metres (324 feet) tall, slightly taller than Big Ben.

And then we do it all over again next year.

@coffeeb.uk saw the mountains of waste created by single-serve coffee and asked a better question: what if we got rid of the pod altogether?

Their answer is a compressed Coffee Ball that delivers the convenience of single-serve coffee without the plastic or aluminum capsule.

Sometimes the best way to deal with waste is to stop creating it in the first place.

*Size is an estimate based on typical capsule dimensions and loose packing.
